Career Skills Institute

What We Do

The Career Skills Institute (formerly PDC department) was formed in the Fall of 1999 to house short, credit-based workplace training classes. The department now has fifty-nine short courses, two full-time faculty members and works with about ten adjunct faculty members. The Professional Development Center markets its PRO courses to the local Santa Barbara business community. Most of the classes are conducted at the client's site. The PDC provides training to all employees of the City of Santa Barbara.

The center has had a partnership with the County of Santa Barbara Employees' University since 1999, and awards PRO course credit for training delivered at their facility. In addition, the PDC offers short, credit-based Microsoft computer applications training and has a newly renovated state-of-the-art computer lab at the Wake Center. The PDC also coordinated credit vocational ESL conversation classes for Bacara Resort and Spa, The Four Seasons Biltmore, Cottage Health Systems, UCSB Housing and Residential Services and the City of Santa Barbara. In the fall of 2008, the PDC started providing three levels of Occupational Spanish classes for the City of Santa Barbara.
